Key Activities
Some of our key activities include;
- Inclusion of all workers in the importance of reporting all incidents of risk to ensure a safer workplace.
- Ensure all workers and subcontractors identify and control risks in the workplace.
- Completing regular site inspections to reduce and control potential risk.
- Keeping our team members up to date with changes to their working environment and changes to WHS workplace practices.
Training
There are a number of safety courses that you may be required to complete in order to work in the mining or construction industries. Here are a few examples:
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training is important and covers the essentials of workplace health and safety, including hazard identification, risk assessment and management, and emergency procedures. Further information can be found at https://www.business.qld.gov.au/industries/mining-energy-water/resources/safety-health
- Heavy machinery operation training: If you will be operating heavy machinery in the mining or construction industry, you will need to complete specialised training in order to do so safely. Most of this is machine specific to the environment you will be entering but basic information is available at https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/20306/guidetomachinery-equipmentsafety.pdf
- Confined spaces training is designed to prepare workers for the hazards associated with working in confined spaces, such as mines, tunnels, and tanks.
- Working at heights training is designed to prepare workers for the hazards associated with working at heights, such as falls and falling objects.
- Mine safety training: Depending on the type of work you will be doing in the mining industry, you may be required to complete specialized mine safety training. Many of these courses are company specific but general guides can be found at SIMTARS https://www.rshq.qld.gov.au/simtars/home
- Consider researching and completing a Standard 11 induction prior to applying for mining work. It is a requirement to attain one before being able to access a coal mine.
